Ball Screw Repair
A number of effects exist that can cause a ball screw to malfunction. For example, it can happen that a small obstruction cab build up in the ball nut and, it can cause it to move less freely or to jam. If this happens ball screw repair is possible. However friction in the ball screw apparatus can gradually begin to cause problems. If this is a root cause ball screw repair can be more difficult.
For those who are familiar with any mechanism that contains devices such as these, you may recognise that ball screw repair is necessary when you see slight blemishes and inaccuracies in your output. A lack of precision may be due to rough running, an effect caused by problems with smoothness within the ball screw. Wear and tear is typically due to contact between the ball bearings and the barrel in the ball nut. After a while the surfaces of the ball bearings will wear away the threads on the inside of the shaft, and the ball bearings will move excessively. Obviously ensuring that the apparatus is properly lubricated will help to ease the erosion created by the motion of the ball bearings, and at the same time blocking access to specks increasing the life of the appartatus and lessening the need for any ball screw repair.
When using lubrication however you should be careful that you don’t flood the apparatus. While the machine is functioning, the oil or other lubricant may be compressed in the ball nut which will burst the tube. Keep in mind that ball screw repair can be required when the larger apparatus starts to get old. Casings and boxes become less effective as they age, causing gaps to appear that allow specks of dirt to reach the ball screw.
Don’t forget that a ball screw can physically crack, although this typically happens if the Industry Machines itself suffers a problem. The technical term for this is machine crash and results in a massive force being transferred to the ball screw over a short space of time. This effect can cause the ball screw shaft to crack. It can even damage the balls inside the screw or alter the structure of the ball nut. In the case of such a machine crash the ball screw might not show the effects straight away, but then it may develop problems and ball screw repair is then required.
Mild scrapings on a ball screw more often than not can be repaired, as the barrel can be cleaned. Pieces of the screw may be substituted for new ones, but ball screw repair may not be feasible in some situations.
